More on the Gators

Bill Simmons had an interesting point today. He was talking about how Florida has looked like they're just on cruise control. Perhaps because they were the champions last year, got into the NCAAs as a #3 seed and then turned it on. He said that probably wouldn't happen this year because the top teams are loaded compared to last year's teams. He asked if any team from last year could have beaten one of the top ten teams from this year. I checked the Ken Pomeroy's site and this may be accurate. If you compare Florida's performance last year to the performance of this year's teams, at present Florida would rank 11th. He only has a couple years of data but if you consider the two national champions before Florida, North Carolina and UConn, they would rank around 4th currently. So it's clear that Florida was the weakest national champion of at least the past three years. Even with virtually everyone back from last year, unless Florida plays with more passion, it's going to be difficult for them to win 6 straight in a Tournament with loaded UNC and Kansas, UCLA, Ohio State and Texas A&M.

Very early, but the stock market has rebounded some from yesterday's debacle. Of course I'm not along for the ride. I have a position in JOY Global which sells mining machinery. Unfortunately it missed earnings and it looks like it's going to drag me down for the day. It was one of the stocks I was worried about the valuation as of late too. Looks like I didn't sell the right stocks. At least in the immediate term.
